Overview
The Explorers course is the perfect first step into the world of programming and robotics for young learners! Designed for 3rd–4th graders, this hands-on program introduces students to the fundamentals of how robots move, sense, and "think"—all in a fun, easy-to-understand format.
Program Details
One hour session each week (in-person). Small groups (~ 10 students per session). Most parts and materials included (simple motors, light sensors, wheels, microcontroller).
Your Explorer will learn…
Intro
Week 1: What is a Robot? (Exploring sensors, motors, and basic parts)
Week 2: How Do Robots Help Us? (Fun real-world examples)
Week 3: Introduction to Block-Based Coding (Drag-and-drop programming)
Week 4: Build Your First Robot! (Using simple kits like LEGO or equivalent)
Movement
Week 5: Controlling Motion – Make your robot move forward/backward
Week 6: Using Light and Sound (Buzzers, LEDs, and fun effects!)
Week 7: Sensors & Decisions (Intro to simple logic: "if something happens, then…")
Week 8: Robot Challenge #1 (Obstacle course or line-following basics)
Storytelling
Week 9: Make Your Robot Tell a Story (Lights, sounds, movement)
Week 10: Group Mini-Project (Team build with a theme like space or jungle)
Week 11: Testing and Iterating (Make your robot better!)
Week 12: Showcase Day! Parents invited to see the students' creations
